Dayoung Jeong — Associate Professor of Law, Chungnam National University

I am an Associate Professor of Law at Chungnam National University Law School in South Korea. I study civil law — contracts, torts, property, and family law — using comparative method to place Korean doctrine in dialogue with the civil-law tradition of continental Europe and the common-law tradition of the United States. Much of my recent work asks how private law should respond to emerging technologies: artificial intelligence, digital platforms, and crypto-assets, along with consumer protection and health law.

I have held visiting appointments at UC Berkeley School of Law, in the United States (where I remain affiliated with the Korea Law Center), and at Université Paris-Panthéon-Assas, in France. Before entering academia, I served as a deputy director in the Korean government and practiced as an attorney in the private sector — a background that keeps my scholarship close to the problems courts and legislators actually face. I also serve on several government advisory committees in Korea.

I work in Korean, English, and French, and some of the work I enjoy most happens across borders: comparative research projects, joint conferences, and advising international colleagues on Korean law. If our interests overlap, I would be glad to hear from you at dayoungjeong@cnu.ac.kr.
